Artel Communications was launched in October
2002, becoming the first Rwandan-based company to introduce Very Small Aperture
Terminal (VSAT) services. Using Dial
Away IP Networks Artel has made it possible for people in the villages to
connect to the World through satellite telephony, fax as well as internet and
data services.
Since its inception, Artel has installed nearly 203
sites in the remotest areas of
Rwanda,
with a projected 350 by the end of 2004. Because the entire installation can be
solar-powered, the DialAw@y IP system does not depend on the existence of any
other infrastructure to operate. Artel has become a key partner in the
implementation of Vision 2020,
Rwanda’s
vision for development through ICT.
Large areas of
Africa
are still scarcely wired and corporate businesses, Government departments,
schools and many other potential users are anxiously awaiting the development
of improved communications infrastructures to speed up economic development in
all corners of the Continent.Artel so far provides services in the
Republic of
South Africa
and has clients in
Cameroon
and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Against this backdrop, Artel
Communications is a provider of Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) services,
utilising the latest satellite technology to provide seamless connectivity to
enterprises and public administrations in
Africa.
The company believes that satellite technology is the most efficient and cost
effective communication system for this vast continent.
